Site-Specific Installation
Times Square Arts, Commission
Duffy Plaza, Times Square
NYC, USA
A conceptual ethno-documentary of New York City, Once Upon a Place presents audio of migration stories as told by immigrants themselves living in the five boroughs through repurposed New York City phone booths. Visitors can enter a booth, pick up the phone, and listen to migration stories ranging anywhere between 2 to 15 minutes of immigrants from different countries around the world who now call New York City home. This intimate experience also presents documentary images and statistical demographic information of immigrant communities in the five boroughs displayed through the form of a Yellow Pages telephone book.
